Which Provo remodelers and contractors does AI recommend?
We asked an OpenAI model with live web search (through its API) 20 questions that customers ask about remodelers and contractors in Provo, 3 times each. Consumer AI apps can answer differently. Of 31 remodelers and contractors we found serving Provo, 23 were never named in 60 answers.
The short version
- 23 of 31 remodelers and contractors serving Provo were not named in any of the 60 answers.
- 43 of 60 answers named at least one of the same three businesses.
The remodelers and contractors AI named most
Counts are how many of the 60 answers named the business, and in how many of the 20 different questions it came up at least once.

We are not publishing the list of the 23 that were never named: a missing result is fixable, and it says nothing about the quality of anyone's work.
What usually decides who gets named
The assistant is not judging who does the best work. It names the businesses it can describe with confidence from what it finds in a live search. For a remodeling contractor, that points to three things worth checking:
- Your own site does the most work. Each service you want to be found for deserves its own page that says what it is, who it is for and that you offer it in Provo, in plain text.
- Say where you work in words. A site that names the cities and neighborhoods it serves is easier to match to "near me" and "in Provo" questions.
- Make your listings agree. When your name, address, phone and services match across Google, Yelp, BBB and the directories, the assistant has several sources agreeing about you.
Our guide on why AI recommends your competitor explains these causes in more depth, and the AI visibility checklist turns them into steps.
How we did this
- Questions: 20 questions written the way customers ask an assistant: "best" and "near me", emergencies, price, specific jobs and trust. The full list is below.
- Engine: OpenAI's GPT-5.6 with live web search, set up as a consumer assistant answering a customer in Provo. It was never told which businesses we were looking for.
- Repeats: each question was asked 3 times, because AI answers vary from run to run. A run without a completed live web search is discarded, not counted.
- The list of 31: remodelers and contractors serving Provo in October 2026, each confirmed against its own website or a public listing.
- Limits: this is one engine on one day. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Google's AI answers differ from each other and change over time. Treat it as a snapshot, not a ranking.
