We asked an OpenAI model with live web search (through its API) 20 questions that customers ask about roofers in St. George, 3 times each. Consumer AI apps can answer differently. Of 33 roofers we found serving St. George, 21 were never named in 60 answers.

We are not publishing the list of the 21 that were never named: a missing result is fixable, and it says nothing about the quality of anyone's work.
What usually decides who gets named
The assistant is not judging who does the best work. It names the businesses it can describe with confidence from what it finds in a live search. For a roofing company, that points to three things worth checking:
- Your own site does the most work. Each service you want to be found for deserves its own page that says what it is, who it is for and that you offer it in St. George, in plain text.
- Say where you work in words. A site that names the cities and neighborhoods it serves is easier to match to "near me" and "in St. George" questions.
- Make your listings agree. When your name, address, phone and services match across Google, Yelp, BBB and the directories, the assistant has several sources agreeing about you.

How we did this
- Questions: 20 questions written the way customers ask an assistant: "best" and "near me", emergencies, price, specific jobs and trust. The full list is below.
- Engine: OpenAI's GPT-5.6 with live web search, set up as a consumer assistant answering a customer in St. George. It was never told which businesses we were looking for.
- Repeats: each question was asked 3 times, because AI answers vary from run to run. A run without a completed live web search is discarded, not counted.
- The list of 33: roofers serving St. George in October 2026, each confirmed against its own website or a public listing.
- Limits: this is one engine on one day. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Google's AI answers differ from each other and change over time. Treat it as a snapshot, not a ranking.
